Like A Pair Of Blue Jeans - Two
You can buy everything you want, attend every concert, luxuriate in all the finest things the world has to offer, and still feel an emptiness that aches.
So what will fill the soul? What can be done to bridge the gap between consumerism and the sense of satisfaction people crave?
My thinking is that the only way to satiate the soul is to do things that give you a sense of purpose. This will be different for each individual. It might be a creative pursuit or a charitable dedication to assisting others, but I don’t think it can be purchased like a pair of blue jeans. You have to somehow make it your own.
This process of creative function is what I think turns the individual from someone simply watching the world, to someone creating something that the world is watching.
Material possessions provide nothing for the soul to understand, unless it conjures up a creative spark within; a memory, a concept, a drive to better oneself. The stimulation that can be obtained through the senses is, by definition, fleeting. But the capacity for, or consideration of, creative output provides a ledge on which the soul can construct meaning.
